“Bernard & Elba’s Waltz is quite possibly the oldest song of mine which I still love to play. This piece emerged when I was just 18 years old, and at that time it was the most fully formed composition I had ever written. It was later adapted for a beautiful stop-frame animation film called Two Balloons. The director claims he got the inspiration for the film while out at sea, listening to this song on headphones. I loved working on the project so much that I changed the title of the song in tribute to the film’s two main characters, a couple of ring-tailed lemurs named Bernard and Elba.” — Peter Broderick
